Why pursue this?
Accounting is the language of business as all businesses use this as a primary tool to communicate. The success as well as failure of the organizations is communicated concisely which further provides transparency and confidence to the management, staff, shareholders as well as to the general public.
The Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet and the Cash Flow statements are primary statements found in audited reports and each has its purpose. These statements are prepared in compliance with statutory requirements which may change. Students of Accounting are therefore better equipped when they also understand the theory of accounting which they would only get through accounting degrees.
